  • Budgeting
  • Education
  • Health care visits
  • Court appearances
  • Organizational skills within the home
  • Connections to available community services
We appreciate the uniqueness of each of our individuals and strive to support them with ongoing patience, clarity and compassion, while catering to their specific personalities and abilities.

Home Sharing

Sometimes called Support Homes, Adult Foster Care or Approved Homes.

The goal of Home Sharing is to promote person centered care in a homelike environment. The care provided can be for example:

  • Meal preparation
  • Emotional support
  • Behavioral support
  • Housekeeping
  • Social Activities

The individual chooses this option perhaps because they like the idea of consistency and diversity of care living with a family, a couple, a single person or in a house where there are children. This option can be more inclusive rather than a segregated form of group care. Home Sharing Hosts are screened and subcontracted independent operators who enter into a contract with Independent Advocacy. They work with the guardian and the individual to ensure the level of care required is met.

We are activly looking for applications for home share hosts. Please email pepinn@iainc.ca

24 Hour Staff Homes/Apartments

Independent Advocacy currently supports up to 15 sites where a maximum of 4 individuals live together. The individuals receive funding for 24 hours of staffing and that may include an awake or asleep on call staff. The services provided are determined at the annual Lifestyle Planning meeting and this is worked out with the individual, their friend, family or legal guardian. Services vary and depend on the needs of the individual and the available funding provided by Persons with Developmental Disabilities Edmonton. The Staff do not live in these homes and an emphasis on it being a joint venture by all who live there is maintained.
